Into the Night with Navid Kermani and Martina Gedeck in Naples

The writer Navid Kermani and the actress Martina Gedeck meet in Naples. They spend an evening full of contradictions and talk about love, passion, literature and the magic of the camera.
In the Piazza del Plebiscito, it becomes clear that both have totally different memories of their first meeting. Kermani remembers nine hours of intense conversations and lots of alcohol, Martina Gedeck believes that they hardly spoke to each other at all. Kermani wants to follow the advice of a female friend and drink no alcohol during the shoot.
They visit the Basilica of Santa Maria della Sanità In the social hotspot Sanità, and meet Father Don Antonio Loffredo, who, with the help young people from poor families, has made the Catacombs of San Gaudioso an attractive place for tourists again. The history of the catacombs shows that there is a long tradition of North African immigrants in Naples.
In a restaurant, Gedeck and Kermani continue trying to find out how they had met at the German Bundestag. Gedeck does not want to believe that Kermani had deliberately allowed himself to be seated next to her. They visit the gallery d ‘Italia with its famous painting of Saint Ursula of Caravaggio, a picture that Kermani loves and in which he sees a feminist legend. They meet the Iranian Ali Namazi, who came to Italy 43 years ago as an architecture student and founded the first Tango school in Italy.
After a few glasses of wine, all good intention are forgotten, and the camera team is sent out to enjoy the view of Naples
