“Westbam – Im Takt der Nacht” is a feature documentary about the career of Westbam, one of the most influential figures in electronic music and one of the co-creators of German club and techno culture.
The film recounts four decades of music and social history to the rhythm of the beat and is an artistic statement about the relationship between music, society, and identity, about the power of rhythm, and letting oneself drift in the flow of a DJ set.
Westbam’s collaborative and intuitive way of working is at its center: whether it´s with Iggy Pop, Richard Sumner, Brian Molko, Dr. Motte, Nena, Afrika Bambaataa, Inga Humpe, Grandmaster Flash, or the conductor Oskar Jockel. The film combines private, never-before-seen archive footage with interviews and music, looking at topics such as reunification, protest, subculture, and the digital revolution.
